Biz-Logo

One of the earlier online logo design firms, Biz-Logo was started in 1997 by Andre le Roux, although the name “Biz-Logo” was only officially adopted in 2003. This South African company gained notoriety for its “pre- designed” logos, then a relatively new concept in logo design. Biz-Logo also offers custom logo design and related design services.

Biz-Logo has been widely criticized for selling so-called “swoosh” logos, the objection being that the swoosh as a logo element is over-used. In defence of Biz-Logo le Roux argues that it is a question of supply and demand, with Biz-Logo providing swoosh logos because there is a demand for them.

The Biz-Logo model puts the onus on the business owner to judge the logos and their fittingness for his or her company, with Biz-Logo designers providing basic advice on design and technical issues once the client selects and pays for a logo.

brand

While the term is often used as a synonym for the term logo, brand refers to more than just the company logo. A company brand can be said to be the sum of the images, qualities and emotions associated with the company.

For example, the Ferrari logo is predominantly yellow and black, yet the color most often associated with Ferrari is red. Red is part of the Ferrari brand to the point where some enthusiasts argue that a Ferrari car painted in any other color is not a true Ferrari.

You could also argue that in the case of Ferrari speed, exclusivity, "Italian-ness" and the unique sound of a Ferrari engine are all integral parts of the total Ferrari brand.

branding

The process of establishing a brand through marketing.

In everyday use the term branded is often ascribed to anything that contains a company logo. In a stricter sense the term branded should be reserved for products or objects that not only contain a logo but matches the total brand image of the company.
