ideogram

Somtimes used as a synonym for logo, an ideogram is strictly speaking not the same thing.

An ideogram is a visual representation of an idea - in other words a picture that illustrates something, like a smiley.

Some logos can be said to be ideograms, but not all logos attempt to illustrate. Many logos are abstract or use elements like company initials to represent the company without illustrating any aspect of the company or the industry.

I'll know it when I see it

The dreaded phrase “I'll know it when I see it” or IKIWISI for short is often listed by logo designers as arguably the worst feedback that a client can provide after being presented with concept designs. It implies that the logos presented were not what the client had in mind, but it fails to give direction for improvement. With infinite design styles and options the logo designer is left in the dark.

in-house designer

In-house designers are designers that work for a logo design firm on a full time, permanent basis - as opposed to freelance logo designers who are subcontracted by the logo design firm.

While many online logo design firms make use of freelance designers, others insist that there are significant benefits (to the client) in using only in-house designers.
